The strategic plan of the
Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department states
the following objective: “We will engage in an agile and
interdisciplinary research program deserving of international
recognition that creates significant broader impact in the areas
of technology transfer and development of leaders in
engineering.” Consequently, we are in a continuous revision of
our graduate programs to support our research objectives and
action plans. Furthermore, we are in alignment with the College
of Engineering to assure that we are not “under-invested” in
areas of research growth or educational need nor “over-invested”
in continuing or old areas. A major part of this vision is an
investment in programs that integrate research,
education and service and promote discovery, learning
and innovation.
This vision requires that IMSE
focuses its graduate programs in the College’s thrust areas and
stimulates a very active research environment. Examples of these
thrusts areas are: advanced manufacturing, engineering the
service sector, transportation and logistics, information
technology and transfer of technology. As such, the delineation
of our graduate efforts will follow those expected in a Research
I institution and are based on an interdisciplinary focus with a
systems orientation.
To ensure success in our graduate
efforts we want to attract and recruit high quality students and
will recruit and mentor a diverse faculty with interdisciplinary
interests. The programmatic efforts described below are a
concerted effort to achieve our objectives and will be reviewed
as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
